HarborPlain

Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information HarborPlain collects, why, and the choices you have.

Last updated: July 2026

Who we are

HarborPlain(“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website harborplain.com. We publish educational calculators, trackers, and guides for new and expecting parents. You can reach us about privacy at privacy@harborplain.com.

Information we collect

We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the site:

  • Usage & analytics data. When you visit, our analytics tools may record pages viewed, approximate location (country/region), device and browser type, referring links, and interactions such as clicks. This is used in aggregate to understand what content is useful.
  • Email you choose to give us. If you subscribe to updates or tool reminders, we store your email address and any information you submit (for example, a due date used to time reminders). Subscriptions use double opt-in.
  • Tool data stays on your device. Our trackers save your inputs (such as a due date or checklist progress) in your browser’s local storage. This information is not sent to or stored on our servers unless you explicitly opt in to email reminders.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. See Cookie Policy for details and the consent controls.

How we use information

  • To operate, maintain, and improve the site and our tools.
  • To measure which content and calculators are helpful.
  • To send the email updates you requested (and only those) — you can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.
  • To keep the site secure and prevent abuse.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

Advertising and Google cookies

We display advertising from Google (via Google AdSense) to fund the free tools and guides on this site. Advertising is served only after you consent where consent is required (see below and our Cookie Policy).

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website and other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu (EU).
  • Where required, Google and its partners rely on your consent, gathered through our consent management platform, before setting advertising cookies or processing data for personalized ads.

For more on how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see Google’s partner-sites policy.

Analytics providers

We use Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to understand site usage and improve the experience. These services set cookies and process usage data as described in their own privacy policies. They load only after you accept analytics cookies where consent is required.

Your consent choices

We use a Google-certified consent management platform (CMP). Non- essential cookies — including analytics and advertising cookies — do not load until you consent in regions where consent is required (such as the EEA, UK, and applicable U.S. states). You can change or withdraw your choices at any time via the cookie settings link available on every page.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. If you are in California, you may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information; we honor recognized opt-out signals where applicable. To exercise any right, email privacy@harborplain.com.

Children’s privacy

HarborPlain is written for parents and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Data retention

We keep email-subscription data until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Aggregated analytics data is retained per the provider’s default retention settings. Tool inputs stored in your browser remain until you clear them or reset the tool.

International transfers

Our service providers may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date above, and where appropriate we will provide additional notice.
